Polderweg Flats

Stage design and painting of sets and backdrops for the Stephen Sondheim musical Into The Woods, 2020.

Stage design and painting of sets and backdrops for the Stephen Sondheim musical Into The Woods, 2020.

Public ceramic works are in for the Polderweg social housing project in Amsterdam. Ceramic tiles and relief ceramics were made for 24 walls. The project developed through creative workshops with the residents who had physical and mental disabilities. We gathered and composed images and objects using photography, collage, ceramic and paint. Source material was found during by walks in the local park, through chatting and creative play with materials, during visits to local shops and through a process of learning to navigate a new neighbourhood.

The film shows the tile machine Pieter Kemink made to funnel and cut thin sections of clay. I then cut the tiles to size and drew designs into them or tailored the edges to fit around relief sculpture. I loved this in ever sense, it was brilliant to work with the residents and staff of De Kleine Johannes.

Bakkerplaats

The fountain was made for a public square in Knokke-Heist Belgium - an exhibition of ceramic models and drawing was held at the local Sincfala folk museum before and with an architect - we designed the lighting and placement of trees and seating in the square.

Hospitality Bath Abbey

Archive of porcelain and glass sculpture/ installation for Hospitality exhibition in Bath Abbey. Host (glass and porcelain work) was installed as an attachment and extension of the Gilbert Scott lamp above the pulpit. Porcelain Nest works were sited on high ledges behind the high altar and in the choir. The artist curated the exhibition and invited 12 artists (working with textile, ceramic and photography) to make new works. The exhibition publication was published by Bath Spa University and Wunderkammer Press.

Janis Claxton Dance Company

Archive examples of costume for dance are below. The works were performed at the Traverse Theatre in Edinburgh.

Liff Hospital

The Liff hospital work was an arts advocacy project. This involved a series of day long workshops with the resident - to make costumes and plant the hospital beds with herbs. Pictured is the wallpaper I printed as part on the advocacy aims.
